Support for victims of modern-day slavery and trafficking
We have specialist expertise in assisting victims of modern slavery and human trafficking. We are committed to working sensitively and fearlessly in helping them to enforce their legal rights.
Domestic and international law requires the state to provide a range of protections to victims of trafficking. Our lawyers have considerable expertise on the legal issues that relate to that status.
As part of our Civil Actions work, we advise on civil damages claims against public authorities for failing to adhere to their anti-trafficking obligations. We also advise on civil damages claims against individuals and corporations benefitting from human trafficking. This includes claims involving cross-jurisdictional issues and involving questions of state immunity.
Where a civil claim also involves issues of public law, then our complimentary expertise in relation to trafficking and judicial review ensures that we can cover many of the interlinking issues facing trafficking victims. We have been involved in several significant cases that have helped shape the law in this area, and we continue to work innovatively and effectively, whilst remaining aware of the bigger picture.
Funding your claim
If you are on a low income or receive a means-tested benefit, you may qualify for legal aid to cover the cost of your claim. If not, we may be able to offer a Conditional Fee Agreement (commonly known as a no-win, no-fee arrangement) or other flexible funding options.
